Last May, Debora Izeta's 3rd grade class was the top contributor to the school's first annual paper drive. The entire student body collected 3,640 pounds of computer paper and newspaper for recycling in a three week period.
Benavides students and staff worked to clean up the environment and make every page count with the guidance of Ms. Anahi Perez, 5th grade Special Ed. teacher. Thanks to the volunteer work of teachers, custodians and staff, the school saved an estimate of 17 trees.
This school year, 5th grade students are making recycling a year long project. They planned another school-wide collection for America Recycles Day, Nov. 15th. They recovered paper, newspaper, and aluminum cans. In just one hour, 2785 pounds of recyclable material was recovered. Parents and students lined up in front of the school to drop off the materials.
The "Ocelots
Green Team" will continue to look for ways to make their school more earth
friendly. They are currently writing persuasive compositions and skits that will be presented
to the lower grades in order to gain their cooperation with this
endeavor.
Keep up the good work Green Team!
